What is Financial Spread Betting?

Spread Betting is a form of trading in which you bet on the price movement of a share, index, bond, commodity or currency. It is a way of participating in the stock markets without actually owning any shares. You pay no fees or commission and all earnings are tax free.*

To familiarise yourself with some of the features and services available through TradIndex.com, click on the arrows or the tabs to take a short tour.

Let's get Started!

On TradIndex.com you can spread bet a wide range of products.
  1. Click on Stock Indices from the home page to see our full list of Stock Indices.
  2. Select the Index you would like to trade.

Market options

Now it’s time for you to make your decision on which way you feel the market will move. You can speculate either a daily contract or a futures contract. The daily contract will expire at the end of the trading day. The futures contract runs until the expiry date shown on the site.
  1. When you have made your decision, simply press the Sell or Buy button to get going.
  2. The prices you see should update automatically if you are logged in as an Investor. If you are a Player you will have to click 'refresh' to update the prices.

For the purpose of this tour, we will assume that we are buying the Nikkei Future for £3 per point. You clicked on the ‘Buy’ button of the daily contract to get here. Now we enter the details of the trade. You need to complete the following 4 steps on the order page:
  1. Select a /Tic amount to determine your trade size.
  2. Select the distance from your trade level to the stop level in tics.
  3. Decide between a Market and a Limit Order.
  4. Check your trade and click ‘Confirm’.

  1. Select the ‘Current mid’ link

Close a Trade

Each contract carries an expiry date that is clearly displayed on the site. However, you can choose to close your trade at any time by selecting the ‘Close’ button on the contract. RISK WARNING: Only a smaller percentage of the total value of the spread bet is required as deposit. As the movement of the underlying instrument determines the financial outcome of the bet, your profit or loss can substantially exceed that deposit very rapidly. Spread betting is not suitable for everyone. If you do not fully understand the risks involved, please seek advice if necessary. Only speculate with money you can afford to lose.
